In 2018, Jonah Smith performed at a Bill Withers tribute at Carnegie Hall — Withers himself was in the house, and the night ended with him onstage, cradling Smith's guitar as the room sang \"Lean On Me\" together. Smith and his bandmates in Family Company knew their paths would cross again.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat followed was years of sold-out shows, soul-rooted covers, and then the pandemic, which sent Smith to his studio and into a new chapter of writing. Songs built remotely with Family Company bassist Alex Kyhn and drummer Josh Teitelbaum reconnected him with a funkier, looser feel. Then in 2024, a deconstructed instrumental became \"Satisfied\" almost overnight. Released that June, it surged across TikTok and streaming platforms and became the most successful release of Smith's career.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat momentum lit a fuse. In February 2025, Smith flew to Los Angeles and recorded six songs live to tape at Kingsize Studios with Family Company. The band tracked three before lunch and all six by day's end. Back in New York, he added guitars with Andy Stack and Al Street. Eric Krasno contributed to \"Irma.\" Bob Reynolds, Paulie Cerra, Mike Cordone, and Lemar Guillary laid down horns.
